Have you ever worked on a newsletter or blog post and needed pictures, and you thought that you can just go buy a cheap one from a site like istockphoto or Shutterstock. And then you get to shutterstock.com and realize nothing is cheap?

I have.

And I am sure you have too. Sticker shock is not just for cars.

And then you do a google search for free images and realize that yes there are some free images for your personal and commercial use, they are usually crap.

Today, I have decided to help you out. We have researched a few sites that do offer free and clear images (some with attribution and some without). The quality of the images are quite nice, and they will add to your high quality content quite nicely.

There is a science to finding a high-quality stock photo. You look beyond just the image itself but the depth of color and the vision that you are trying to create for your brand. I can guarantee this. No matter who you are, you will find some very good pictures that you will be able to work with.

On to the five best websites…

1.  PIXABAY

I find pixabay to be the site with some of the best photos and images and a great search feature. One thing you will enjoy is that there is no attribution required.

2.  GRATISOGRAPHY

Here is another site with free high-resolution pictures you can use on your personal and commercial projects.  This site offers some great pictures and they are categorized in the navigation bar. Ryan McGuire, who owns the site, uploads new pictures every single week so you always can come back and find new things.

3. PEXELS

Pexels speaks for itself. It has a remarkable search function and quite a few images that you can choose from. Most pictures don’t require attribution but you may stumble on a few that do. Honestly, the quality of photo you get here is so good that it wouldn’t matter to attribute credit. This will probably be your go-to site for images when it’s all said and done.

4. UNSPLASH

I’ll be honest. I use unsplash for inspiration as well. This is more of a blog with images from different photographers, and I find that I can get creative juices flowing by just taking some time and flipping through it. You can click the photo and find out about the picture in question.  You can also submit your own photos.

5. STOCKSNAP

This site adds images weekly attribution free.  Now this site has some really exceptional food shots as well as outside landscape shots. Just type in your category and you will get plenty of options.

I know at the beginning of the article I mentioned images that would be good just for newsletters and blog post. Please don’t stop there. Websites can be enhanced by pictures from any of these sites. The order of the list is not in any preferential order. You will find something you like in each of these sites that will enhance marketing materials or websites.
